Cloud computing company Lambda launches new cluster service for on-demand access to Nvidia H100 GPUs

Recently, GPU cloud computing company Lambda announced the launch of its new 1-Click cluster service, and customers can now obtain Nvidia H100 GPU and Quantum2InfiniBand clusters on demand. This innovative service allows enterprises to obtain computing power only when needed, especially for those companies that do not require 24/7 access to GPUs.

Robert Brooks, co-founder and vice president of Lambda, said in an interview that the service is designed for companies that are building their own models. In this way, they only need to quickly obtain the GPU computing power they need when they need it, avoiding the complex hardware and software coordination that was previously required. He mentioned that starting an AI company requires a lot of money and time, especially to configure a large GPU cluster.

Unlike the traditional GPU leasing model, the Lambda service eliminates the complex process of negotiating usage time with GPU vendors. Brooks noted that Lambda found a solution to make the Nvidia H100 GPU and Infini network readily available for new model training projects.

Many people tend to use pre-trained AI models and fine-tune them with their own data management policies, because the cost of building and training basic models is high. Moreover, Nvidia GPUs are expensive, and many companies simply cannot afford to build their own data centers to store these GPUs. For small AI companies, they usually can only choose to rent GPU space or cooperate with cloud service providers, hoping to obtain the data required for training models. required processing.

While cloud service providers like AWS and Microsoft Azure provide access to AI and Nvidia GPUs, Brooks emphasized that their focus is on the inference phase of the model, not the training phase. Traditional GPU cluster contracts often take a year or more to sign.

The 1-Click cluster is specifically aimed at companies that only need short-term models, especially those who don't want to sign long-term contracts. Customers can reserve the required nodes as needed, with a minimum booking period of two weeks. Specific pricing varies based on the number of nodes and time required.

Lambda was founded in 2012 and successfully raised US$320 million in February this year, bringing the company's valuation to US$1.5 billion.
